SEARCY, AR – The Southern Nazarene Baseball (1-17, 1-13 GAC) team traveled down to Searcy, Arkansas for a weekend Great American Conference series against the Harding University Bison (12-5, 9-5 GAC) on Friday evening. The Bison took both games in the doubleheader by scores of 7-2 and 10-2 to hop to an early advantage in the series at Jerry Moore Field.
Game 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Crimson Storm struck first in the contest when
Austin Glock singled up the middle to score
Jarrett Phillips and put the Storm up 1-0. The Bison hit a rhythm afterwards as they went on a 5-0 run to lead 5-1 by the 8
th inning.
Southern Nazarene again crossed the plate when
Colby Entwistle reached home on a wild pitch to tally the last score for SNU on the day. Harding tacked on two more runs as they prevailed 7-2 in game one.
EJ Taylor led the Crimson Storm offensively as he went 3-for-4 from the plate while
Austin Glock finished 1-for-4. Glock's one hit brought in a runner as this was the lone RBI of game one. Other notables were
Colby Entwistle and
Jarrett Phillips who both crossed the plate once while going 1-for-3 and 1-for-4, respectively.
Time on the mound was spent between
Triston Graves and
Elijah Brady as Graves saw action through 6.2 innings. Graves (L, 1-4) faced 30 batters, allowed five runs, and threw five strikeouts.
Elijah Brady came in as relief to pitch for the remainder of the game as he struck out two and allowed a of couple runs.
Game 2
The second game would start out similar to the first as SNU got on the board first in the 2
nd inning when
Austin Glock bunted to shortstop to push
Jarrett Phillips home. The Bison answered with a couple of runs of their own at the bottom of the 2
nd to lead 2-1 going into the 3
rd.
At the top of 3
rd,
EJ Taylor doubled to right center to score
Clay Lockett to tie the score at 2-2, but Harding would again find their tune as they scored eight more times to have the scoreboard read 10-2 at the game's end.
From the plate,
Austin Glock led the Storm as he went 1-for-3 and collected an RBI.
EJ Taylor was the only other SNU player to tally an RBI as he finished 1-for-2 in the contest.
Clay Lockett and
Jarrett Phillips both crossed the plate once as they went 2-for-4 and 1-for-3, respectively.
Other notables were
Colby Entwistle and
Eric Gutierrez who each registered one hit.
Jacob Owen (L, 0-2) saw the most action on the bump as he pitched through 2.1 innings, collected one strikeout, and allowed five runs.
Brandon Rezek came in as relief to pitch for 1.2 innings, allow one run, and throw a strikeout.
Jacob Johnson and
Brett Rexroad would spend time on the mound as each collected one strikeout.
Southern Nazarene will turnaround tomorrow, Saturday, to complete their series against Harding in the finale starting at noon.
