Eagles wear down Storm

Pitching woes plagued SNU late as OCU came with a 13-6 win on Tuesday at Feland Field.

BETHANY, OK – The Southern Nazarene Baseball team hosted a non-conference contest against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles on Tuesday afternoon after coming off a tough series against Henderson State over the weekend.

Late in the game, OCU (4-3, 3-3 LSC) caught fire as they were able to compile 11 runs to overcome the deficit created by the Storm (0-5, 0-3 GAC). A struggling bullpen of SNU would result in an 11-run inning, eventually ending the contest at 13-6 on Tuesday at Feland Field.

As the stats read, for the second consecutive game, SNU collected 11 hits. The Eagles would also tally 11 hits while registering a couple of errors on the defensive side.

For the first time this season, the Crimson Storm would jump out to a three-run lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Brian Brown would score off a wild pitch with Jarrett Phillips and Austin Glock advancing on the bases. Colby Entwistle would ground out to shortstop, bringing in a Glock score. Next, Cole Embrey would single to third and bring around Jarrett Phillips

It wasn't until the top of the 6th that OCU would cross home plate and with two scores of their own. SNU would struggle in the pitching rotation in the 7th as the inning saw four pitching changes.

At the bottom of the 7th, the Storm would begin a mild comeback as Brian Brown would bring EJ Taylor across home plate. Then, in the 8th, Cole Embrey would double to center field and bring Tyler Broyles across to score to 13-5. Embrey would also score the last run of an Eric Gutierrez single into right field.

Statistically, Embrey led SNU as he went 2-for-5 at the plate and collected two RBIs. Brown posted similar stats as he went 2-for-5 and brought in one runner. Entwistle and Gutierrez were the only other Storm players who would register an RBI as each had one apiece.

Other notables were Tyler Broyles who went 2-for-2 and Jarrett Phillips who finished 1-for-2 from the plate.

Elijah Brady got the start on the bump today as he saw time in 5.1 innings to face 21 batters and collect three strikeouts. Brett Rexroad (L, 0-2) would come in as relief to throw for an inning but would allow four runs and be credited with the loss.

Tyler Herriott, Adrian Flores, Jarrett Phillips, and Austin Slate would all come in to try and slow the bleeding in the 7th inning. Sophomore Jacob Johnson would close it out for the Storm as he faced eight batters, collected a strikeout, and didn't allow a run.

Southern Nazarene will be back in action this Friday as they travel to Durant to take on Southeastern (3-3, 0-3 GAC) in a GAC. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
