Storm fall in Finale

SNU drops their series finale against SWOSU 21-3 on Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City, Okla. – After coming off a massive 8-2 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday night in Oklahoma City, the Storm would make a turnaround on Sunday to conclude their series with the Bulldogs. The momentum from the first day's split didn't roll over as SNU would fall 21-5 in the series finale.

Southern Nazarene (1-11, 1-8 GAC) struggled to limit the power of Southwestern (6-4, 5-4 GAC) as the Bulldogs finished with 25 total hits. A series of unfortunate events led to the Storm's eventual failure in a game that saw no errors.

After a SWOSU score in the 1st inning, an EJ Taylor sacrifice fly into left field would plate Colby Entwistle, bringing the score to 1-1 at the end of the inaugural inning. The Bulldogs then caught a stride as they piled on 10 more runs to build their lead to 11-1 by the third inning.

The Storm would get back on board in the 3rd as Jarrett Phillips singled into left field to bring Colby Entwistle around for his second score of the game. In the 6th, Eric Gutierrez grounded out to third to plate Jarrett Phillips, tacking on one more score.

SNU's last effort to put points on the board came in the 7th inning as Colby Entwistle pounded a two-run homer over the left-field fence, but the bleeding was already too significant as SWOSU's lead was insurmountable.

Colby Entwistle has a stellar outing as he went 4-4, hit a homerun, crossed the plate twice, and collected two RBI's. Jarrett Phillips also had a decent showing as he went 2-4 on the day, scored once, and had one RBI. Eric Gutierrez and EJ Taylor would go 1-2 and 1-3, respectively, from the plate. Each finished with an RBI as well.

Eight different pitchers took their chances at the Bulldogs as Jacob Johnson clocked the most time on the mound. Johnson had a team-high three strikeouts during his 1.2 innings of action. Rexroad (L, 0-3) pitched for 1.1 innings and allowed six runs as he was credited with the loss.

Other notables were Payne Maga, Jacob Owen, Adrian Flores, and Jarrett Phillips, who collected a strikeout apiece.

Southern Nazarene will make a quick turnaround as they will travel down Woodward to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State in an out-of-conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.
