OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Southern Nazarene Baseball team rounded off their weekend series in a 15-2 loss to the Henderson State Reddies on Sunday in Oklahoma City. Today's matchup between the GAC foes had to be moved to Putnam City High School due to inclement weather.
The high-powered offense of Henderson State (5-1, 3-0 GAC) showed up again as the Storm (0-4, 0-2 GAC) struggled to slow down their bats. Despite the final score, SNU would connect with the ball numerous times as they collected 11 hits, two less than the 13 HSU came away with.
Southern Nazarene broke the contest's seal as an Austin Glock single brought Eric Guiterrez across home plate in the first inning. The Reddies would combat this score with a 7-0 run of their own. It wasn't until the top of the third that an EJ Taylor single up the middle scored Cole Embrey, tallying the count to 7-2.
This would mark the Storm's final score as Henderson State would tack on eight more runs en route to their series win.
Five different SNU players would make their way onto the bump today, with Payne Maga clocking the most time. Maga would pitch 5.1 innings and strikeout three as he faced 21 batters. Brett Rexroad (L, 0-1) pitched a little under an inning as he faced nine batters and allowed five runs. Travis Herriott, Adrian Flores, and Zach Birkle were the others who saw action on the mound today for the Storm.
EJ Taylor had his most efficient outing yet as he went 3-for-3 from the plate and collected an RBI. Austin Glock would chip in on this action as he was 2-for-3 and brought in a runner as well. Senior Eric Gutierrez finished the day 2-for-3 and crossed the plate one time for SNU.
Other notables were Peyton Vinyard and Brian Brown, who went 1-for-2 and 1-for-3, respectively.
Southern Nazarene will look to rebound as they will host Oklahoma Christian (3-3, 3-3 GAC) on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
