BETHANY, OK – The Southern Nazarene Baseball team opened GAC play on Saturday in a weekend series against the Henderson State Reddies in Bethany. The matchup was originally scheduled to be played on Friday and Saturday in Arkadelphia but had to be rescheduled due to weather issues.
In game one, HSU (4-1, 2-0 GAC) would hop out to an early lead as they compiled 14 runs through the first four innings. The lone score from SNU (0-3, 0-2 GAC) came in the seventh when Jarrett Phillips lofted a ball over the left-field wall. Unfortunately, the Storm were not able to slow down the Reddies' power as they would fall 14-1.
SNU players Patrick Hine, Austin Slate, and Kasen Jackson would all get action on the bump today through six innings. Hines (L, 0-2) would pitch for 2.0 innings, collecting three strikeouts and allowed nine runs. Slate would throw for the same amount of time to give two strikeouts and allow five runs. In game two, the scene settled a bit as the Storm held the Reddies to just two runs in two innings. HSU proceeded to find a rhythm and score 12 runs in the remaining innings. During this run, SNU would cross home base three times.
Tyler Broyles would ground out to first to thrust Brian Brown across for a score. The last two scores would come at the top of the sixth as Brown and Peyton Vinyard found their way home.
