SHAWNEE, OK - The Southern Nazarene Women's basketball team traveled to Shawnee for a face-off with the Oklahoma Baptist Bison. The Crimson Storm dominated the entire game as they completed a three-game sweep of OBU, winning the matchup 56-45 on Monday night.
SNU (9-5, 9-5 GAC) played well defensively as they held the Bison (3-15, 2-14 GAC) to just 12-of-46 from the field while forcing a whopping 25 turnovers. The Crimson Storm combined for 12 steals, four blocked shots, and scored a total of 21 points off turnovers.
Kennedy Gillette and
Georgia Adams led the Storm in points, as they both scored 12 points apiece. Gillette stuffed the stat sheet as she denied four shots, picked four pockets, and brought down 10 rebounds, collecting her third double-double of the season.
Senior
Alexus Jones had a stellar game with eight points and four assists.
Cassandra Awatt also starred in this game as she scored eight points and controlled the boards, collecting six rebounds. Freshman
Payton Jones struggled on the evening as she shot 3-of-11 from the floor but managed to chime in on seven of her nine free-throw attempts.
The Crimson Storm got out to a hot start as they scored the first ten points of the game, but this fire quickly extinguished as the Bison went on an 8-0 run to leave the score at 12-10 to end the first quarter of play.
SNU would continue to struggle from the field in the second as they shot just 2-of-9. Their discipline from the charity stripe would grant them 12 points and allow the Storm to hold a 29-19 advantage going into the break.
In the third quarter, the Southern Nazarene kept at it defensively as they were able to limit the Bison to 2-of-9 nine from the field and eight points. The Storm would control the lead at 42-27 going into the final quarter of play. SNU would cruise to the finish line in the fourth to tally their ninth conference win and the seventh straight victory of the season.
The Crimson Storm will be back on the road Thursday for a contest against the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs (13-2, 13-2 GAC). Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
