SNU lights up Ouachita, run-ruling the Tigers twice to open their home schedule

BETHANY – Southern Nazarene's softball team (14-5, 7-0 GAC) finally had their home opener on Friday against Ouachita Baptist (2-13, 0-6 GAC) and boy did they start off their home schedule on the right note. The Crimson Storm absolutely torched the Tigers in both of their games today, run-ruling the Tigers 8-0 in the first game. The second game was almost identical to the first as SNU again run-ruled Ouachita by a score of 9-1.

In the first game, Brooklyn Sparkman got the start as she pitched all five innings for the Crimson Storm. Sparkman faced 17 batters and didn't flinch. She only allowed three hits and also recorded five strikeouts on the mound as her record remains perfect on the year at 5-0.

Raegan Roten had a fantastic day at the plate as she put together a home-run and three RBI. Roten also had two hits in the contest. Kai Sanchez also starred today for the Crimson Storm with a home-run and an RBI, while Hallie Fellers had some strong numbers with two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Caitlyn Curlee had a good game as well as she chipped in a hit, an RBI, and scored a run.

In the bottom first inning, Fellers hit a single up the middle to score Peyton Robinson to put up the first run of the day for the Storm. Shortly after, Fellers scored off an error by the Tigers to put the Storm up 2-0.

In the third inning, the Crimson Storm got going again with an unearned run by Morgan Miller to push their lead to 3-0, and in the fourth inning Sanchez and Rotten shined for the Storm as they both hit back-to-back solo home-runs. The score was 5-0 after the fourth inning.

SNU had a big fifth inning as they put up three runs, and ended the Tigers hopes of mounting a comeback.

Chelsea Vandiver got the start for the Storm in the second game. Vandiver pitched a total of 4 innings only allowing three hits, and didn't let the Tigers get on the scoreboard. Courtney Cox came in relief and went against five batters. Cox only allowed one run during her time on the mound.

Caitlyn Curlee had quite a productive second game as she scored three times, had two hits, a homerun, and an RBI. Natalie Jones burst onto the scene with two RBI, two hits, and she also scored a run. Mahina Sauer also had a great game as she put together a home-run, an RBI, scored a run, and a hit. Peyton Robinson had a solid game scoring a run, had three hits, and an RBI.

In the first inning, Jacey James hit a single up the middle to set up the Crimson Storm's first run of the game. Later in the bottom of the first, Jones hit a single to left field to allow Curlee to score. That put the Storm up 2-0 going into the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Sauer and Curlee both hit a home-run to put the Crimson Storm up 4-0. SNU scored three more times in the third inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead on the Tigers.

In the fourth inning, Curlee advanced to home to balloon SNU's lead to 8-0. In the bottom of the fifth, Ouachita scored their only run. At the very end of the contest, Jones singled through the right side to allow James to score the Storm's last run of the day.

Southern Nazarene comes back to their home field on Saturday to face the Ouachita Tigers again, looking for the four-game sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
