BETHANY – Southern Nazarene's softball team (16-5, 9-0 GAC) continued to add to its winning streak which currently stands at nine in a row with two dominating wins against Ouachita Baptist (2-15, 0-8 GAC) on Saturday. In the first game of the day the Crimson Storm bested the Tigers 6-2. In the second game of the day the Storm finished the second contest winning 9-1. This moves SNU's record to start GAC play at a perfect 8-0 for the first time since joining the Great American Conference.
In the first game of the day,
Brooklyn Sparkman received the start for the Crimson Storm. Sparkman got her sixth win of the season, and she now has an individual record of 6-0. Sparkman had an efficient day at the mound, allowing only three hits, two runs, and also struck out nine Ouachita batters.
Courtney Cox came in relief for the Storm to pitch 1.2 innings. Cox didn't allow a single run and also had a strikeout in the victory.
Jacey James had a fantastic game batting for the Crimson Storm with two RBI, two hits, and she also scored a run.
Brooklyn Sullivan also had an amazing game at the plate with an RBI, scored a run, and two hits.
Peyton Robinson was productive with two hits and two runs.
In the bottom of the 1st inning,
Peyton Robinson scored to get SNU on the board first. In the top of the second inning, the Tigers took their first lead of the series with a two-run home-run. The Storm unleashed everything they had in the bottom of the 2nd, as they scored four more times to extend their lead. At the start of the third inning, the score was 6-2, in favor of the Crimson Storm.
Throughout the rest of the game both teams were at a stalemate as they both failed to score another run. SNU won 6-2 and got their third straight win against the Tigers.
In the second game of the day,
Chelsea Vandiver got the start for the Storm. Vandiver performed brilliantly as she only gave up one run against 22 batters.
Madison Arnold came in relief for the Crimson Storm as she pitched for the last inning of play. Arnold didn't allow a hit during her time on the mound.
Caitlyn Curlee was on fire for the Storm as she stuffed the stat sheet. Curlee hit a home-run, had four RBI, three hits, and she also scored a run.
Jacey James put up some great numbers for the Storm with three RBI, two hits, and also scored a run.
Peyton Robinson also had a great day at the plate for the Storm as she scored twice and had one hit.
Just like in the first game
Peyton Robinson scored first to put the Storm up early. In the second both teams went quiet as no runs were scored.
In the third inning, James singled up the middle allowing Robinson and Roten to round home, and put the Storm up 3-0. Later in the bottom of the third, Curlee hit a home-run, which she and James scored off of to put SNU up 5-0 on the Tigers.
In the fourth inning, Ouachita was able to score their first runs of the game. At the end of the fourth, SNU had the lead 5-1. In the fifth inning of play, Curlee hit a single to allow
Morgan Miller to score. Later in the same inning SNU scored two more runs to go up 8-1.
To add to her already impressive game, Curlee hit a single to left field to give Nightengale the chance to score the Crimson Storm's final run of the day. The game ended 9-1 in favor of the Storm.
Southern Nazarene will take the trip to Arkadelphia, Arkansas next weekend to face the Henderson State Reddies. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm next Friday.
