Storm Fall in Arkadelphia

SNU dropped the opening game of their series against Ouachita Baptist 10-4 on Friday afternoon.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southern Nazarene (5-11, 0-5 GAC) made the long journey down to Arkadelphia to face off against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers (7-8, 3-4 GAC), just days after defeating Mid-America Christian 7-6 on Tuesday.

The quick turnaround may have played a factor in the opening game of the series as SNU fell 10-4 on Friday afternoon at Rab Rogers Field.

OBU, who had also played Tuesday, showed no signs of fatigue as they came out hot and fast. The Tigers managed to build a 6-1 lead by the end of the 4thinning. Momentum was solely held by Ouachita until the top of the 5thwhen Austin Glock grounded out to first base, sending Clay Lockett home, and bringing the score to 6-2.

Right after, in the 6th, Jarret Phillips blasted a solo home run to chip into the Tiger lead. However, Ouachita quickly shut the door on the mild comeback as they answered with four runs in the 7th. The Crimson Storm would make one final attempt to cut into the lead as Lockett doubled in the 9th, allowing a Colten Cassida score, but the lead was too insurmountable at this point.

Brett Rexroad would get the start on the mound for SNU as he pitched 4.0 innings, managing to strikeout four batters. Rexroad was credited with the loss, bringing his season recored to 1-2. Noah Serrano would then come in to relieve Rexroad and pitch 2.1 innings while striking out two. Zach Birkle, Austin Slate, and Ryan Lowery would all get a chance to come in as relief as well.

Clay Lockett lead things at the plate for SNU today as he went 2-4, scored a run, and brought in a runner. Jarrett Phillips also had a solid day as he was 1-3, slamming his first homerun of the season, and batting in a runner as well. Austin Glock and Carlos Michel would both collect an RBI too as they were both 1-4 at the plate.

Southern Nazarene will be back tomorrow to conclude the series with Ouachita a doubleheader, starting at 12:00 p.m.
