7/25/2019 11:38:00 AM

BETHANY - Noah Starkey signed a 1-year deal with FC Porto based out of Portugal. The team announced the signing of the 6-11 center on Wednesday evening.

"We are so happy and proud for Noah," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Adam Bohac. "He has worked so hard to improve himself over the past 4 years."

Starkey comes off an incredible senior season where he was named GAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, becoming the first player in GAC history to win back-to-back major awards. Starkey was named First Team All-GAC and earned a spot on the GAC All-Torunament Team in back-to-back seasons.

Starkey finished as the all-time leader, as well as second in GAC history, in total blocks with 187 as well as the single season record at 64. He was second in school history in blocks/game with 1.6. Midway through last season, Starkey became the 21st player in GAC history to eclipse 1,000 points in a career. He even set a new career-high in points to lead SNU to their first ever NCAA Tournament win, scoring 31 points to go with nine boards in a 20-point win over St. Cloud State.

"Noah has been a terrific teammate, tremendous student, and a great ambassador for SNU, his family, and our program," added Bohac. "Noah will be a great pro because he has established several professional habits during his time at SNU that will continue to serve him as he moves forward."

In the last two seasons, SNU has won 27 or more games in back-to-back seasons and has an astonishing 56-9 record, a 45-5 GAC record, and a 27-1 mark at home.

SNU's 21-1 GAC record in 2017-18 set a new GAC mark for the best conference record in men's basketball history and became the first team in both school and GAC history to win back-to-back conference championships in the regular season as well as the tournament. They were one of four schools in all of Division II to accomplish this feat in 2018-19.
