Storm Fall to SAU

No. 22 ranked Muleriders take down Storm 7-2

WARR ACRES, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped the final game of the series with No. 22 ranked Southern Arkansas 7-2 after the contest was delayed for almost two hours due to heavy rain in the Oklahoma City area.

Rain began to fall around 11:40 a.m. at Putnam City High School on the turf field, and after a delay ranging over an hour and a half, play was able to resume. Jackson Berry got the start on the mound in the series finale and the senior took his third loss of the season. He tossed 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits, as he was one of six pitchers to make an appearance on Saturday. Brandon Rezek, Zach Birkle, Jarrett Phillips, David Lechuga, and Landon Walker all saw action on the bump for SNU.

Emilio Escobedo provided one the Crimson Storm's two RBIs in the game as he finished 1-for-2 at the dish. Elijah Brady was the other Storm hitter to drive in a run as Garrett Perez recorded SNU's only other hit in the game. The Muleriders had their bats going on Saturday as they finished with 12 hits in the game.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Southern Arkansas ripped off three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Muleriders added two more in the top of the fourth to make it 5-0 before SNU got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Escobedo's single to center field scored Jefferson Harris to make it 5-1, before SAU added another run in the top of the fifth.

The rain delay began after the Storm were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the fifth. Once play resumed, Southern Arkansas added a run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-1 before Brady's double down the left field line scored Tanner Ladon to make it 7-2. That was the final scoring play in the contest as the Muleriders held the Storm in check down the stretch in the final two innings.

Southern Nazarene hits the road next weekend for a three-game series with Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant. That will be the final road series of the season for the Crimson Storm.
