Storm Downed in Durant

Southeastern OSU defeats SNU 9-3 in series opener

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped the first game of the series with Southeastern Oklahoma State 9-3 on Sunday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The Crimson Storm managed six hits in the contest, but the Savage Storm doubled them as they tallied 12. Tyler Thompson got the start on the mound for SNU, and the junior took his sixth loss of the season. He tossed 3.0 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits while striking out one batter.

Four other relievers saw action for the Crimson Storm on Sunday as David Lechuga, Triston Graves, Landon Walker, and Jarrett Phillips each took the rubber for SNU. Cobi Ceron led the way at the plate for SNU as he finished 1-for-4 with two RBI's, and he was the only Storm hitter to drive in a run.

Tanner Ladon and Shelby Reese each went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Elijah Brady, Cole Lee, and Jefferson Harris finished 1-for-3 at the dish as well.

After a scoreless opening inning, Southeastern pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. SNU cut into that lead in the top of the fourth when Reese scored on a balk to make it 4-1. The Savage Storm came right back in the bottom of the fourth to score three more runs to push their lead to 7-1.

Southeastern added another run in the fifth to make it 8-1, before Ceron's single to right field scored Brady and Ladon to make it 8-3. The Savage Storm added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to close out SNU on their home field.

Southern Nazarene will close out the series with Southeastern Oklahoma State tomorrow with a doubleheader at Mike Metheny Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Durant.
