MONTICELLO, Ark. — Southern Nazarene closed out the series with Arkansas-Monticello on Monday afternoon with an 8-4 loss at Weevils Field.
Â
The Weevils completed the series sweep of the Crimson Storm after recording 12 hits in the game. SNU was able to match UAM in hits, but left 11 total runners on base.
Jackson Berry got the start on the mound in the series finale for the Storm, as the senior took his second loss of the season.
Â
Cole Lee and
Brandon Rezek each provided relief for Berry on the bump as the trio combined for six total strikeouts against the Weevils. Lee also led the way at the plate for SNU as he finished 3-for-5. He was one of three Storm batters to tally multiple hits in the contest as
Jack Campbell led the way with a couple of RBI's on his two hits.
Â
Tanner Ladon went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Jefferson Harris finished 1-for-5 and two runs scored.
Shelby Reese,
Jackson Hopking,
Christian Dent, and
Cobi Ceron each finished with one hit in the game for SNU as well.
Â
Southern Nazarene wasted no time in getting on the board in the top of the first when Campbell's double drove in Reese to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Later in the same inning, Ladon's single to center field scored Harris to extend the SNU advantage to 2-0.
Â
Arkansas-Monticello responded in the bottom of the second with three runs to take their first lead of the game at 3-2, before pushing another run across in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. SNU made it a one-run game again in the top of the fifth when Campbell's single to left field scored Harris to make it 4-3.
Â
The Weevils quickly responded however, as they scored a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. In the sixth, Dent scored on an error to cut the lead to 6-4, but that's the closest SNU came down the stretch as UAM scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach for the Storm.
Â
Southern Nazarene will have very little time to rest as they now prepare for a non-conference road game against their rival Oklahoma Christian tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. SNU will look to snap a six-game losing streak against the Eagles.
