EDMOND, Okla. - It was a tough day of softball for Southern Nazarene as they dropped a pair of contest to host Central Oklahoma 11-8 and Cameron 9-0 (5) on the first day of the UCO/OC Softball Festival in Edmond on Saturday afternoon.
In the first match up against the Bronchos,
Riley Kalman came to the plate with a two on and two down and smacked a three run homer to center to give the Crimson Storm a 3-0 advantage. UCO got one back in the bottom of the first, but Kalman struck again in the third with a two-out RBI single to bring the score to 4-1.
The Bronchos would score 10 runs in the next two innings to take an 11-4 lead through four complete.
SNU did not go down quietly as
Kai Sanchez got one home on a sac fly in the fifth while
Caitlyn Curlee drove one in with two downs with a RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 11-6. Later in the top of the seventh, Curlee drove one home and reached on an error in the process while another run would score on a second UCO error to make it 11-8. The tying run came to the plate with two down, but UCO got the final out and preserved the 11-8 win.
Kalman finished 3-for-3 with the only extra base hit in the home run, driving in four and scoring two times. Curlee followed with a 2-for-4 day with two RBI while
Skye Ah Yat was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Caitlin Lewis (L, 0-1) was tagged with the loss while
Brooklyn Sparkman pitched 2.2 innings in relief, only allowing one run on three hits.
The bats slowed down in game two as SNU was no hit by Cameron's Rylee Willmon in five innings. Cameron brought home runs in the first and second to open up a 6-0 lead and added three more in the next two innings to take a 9-0 lead. Ah Yat drew a walk in the contest while
Mahina Sauer (L, 1-2) was given the loss in the circle.
SNU is back in action tomorrow night as they head to the Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza at Oklahoma Christian to take on Colorado Christian beginning at 6 p.m.
