2018-19 Fall GAC All-Academic Team
BETHANY, Okla. — For the first time in school history and since joining NCAA Division II, Southern Nazarene recorded the highest number of Fall student-athletes bringing home Great American Conference All-Academic Team honors.
Â
Among the 12 league institutions, SNU had a record 51 student-athletes earn the honor, which is five more than last year's record and three more than Oklahoma Baptist and Harding. It is also the fourth consecutive year that SNU set an athletics department record for the number of student-athletes to earn GAC All-Academic Team honors.
Â
The league office announced that a conference-record 371 student-athletes achieved Academic All-Conference honors in the sports of football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross-country.
Â
Football led the way with a program record and league-high 24 student-athletes, four more than they had last year. Women's cross-country and men's soccer also set program records with nine earning the honor for WXC, two more than a season ago, while the men's soccer team had six. Volleyball had seven student-athletes earn the honor, while women's soccer had three, and men's cross-country had two.
Â
"It never ceases to amaze me the level of excellence achieved by GAC student-athletes," GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said. "They continue to raise the standard around the conference. I commend all of these student-athletes for finding balance between their work in the classroom and on the field of play."
Â
For student-athletes to be recognized on the Academic All-Conference Team, they must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution. In addition, their grade-point average must be a minimum of 3.30 on the 4.0 system. The GPA shall be cumulative for the athlete's entire collegiate career.
