SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southern Nazarene came up just short against No. 1 Lubbock Christian 56-47 in the first game of the San Antonio Classic.
The Storm (4-1, 2-0 GAC) were tit-for-tat with the top-ranked Chaparrals (6-0, 1-0 LSC) as they led all the way until the fourth quarter of play. Neither team shot well as LCU held the advantage finishing with a 31% field goal percentage to the 28% of SNU.
Both teams combined for 32 made fields goals on 108 attempts, leaving the remainder of the points coming from the free-throw line.
The Crimson Storm held their own defensively as they were able to force 16 turnovers. In a game that involved a total of 32 turnovers, SNU forced 11 steals.
The Chaparrals held the advantage from the free-throw line, shooting 75% while the Storm sat at 58%.
Sonia Sarda led the way for the Storm as she finished the day with 14 points on 6-of-15 shooting.
Kennedy Gillette struggled on the night as she went 3-of-11 from the floor, earning nine points, but managed to pull down a season high 10 rebounds.

Alexus Jones registered seven points, nine rebounds, and one steal.
Myriam Garcia was the leading scorer off the bench for SNU as she finished with seven points, five rebounds, and one block. Jayce Soap was a stickler on the defensive end as she took away four steals from the Chaparrals.
SNU got off to a hot start outscoring LCU 11-to-6 and finished the first quarter on an 8-0 run.
Sonia Sarda was the leader in this early push as she scored 10 of the Storm's first 13 points.
At the half, the Crimson Storm lead 22-14 but were edged 14-11 in the third quarter to open the last quarter of play. Lubbock Christian earned their first lead since the first quarter in the fourth and never looked back.
Southern Nazarene will be return to action tomorrow as they take on St. Mary's University (2-2, 1-1 LSC). Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
