BETHANY - From the first serve Thursday night, the Southern Nazarene University volleyball team was in complete control of their match against the East Central University Tigers.
SNU (12-6, 3-2 GAC) needed only 59 minutes to take a three set sweep of East Central (2-16, 1-4 GAC) as they got back on track in front of the Sawyer Center crowd.
The Crimson Storm took six of the first seven points of the night, and that was just the beginning of a dominant effort. SNU racked up 19 kills in the first set alone, 17 of those coming from senior setter
Kylie Smith.
Smith picked up 43 assists in the sweep, and as the night wore on,
Kayla Thomas asserted herself as well. Thomas was the only member of either team to reach double-figures in kills, and she did so in impressive fashion. Thomas had 14 kills on only 21 attempts without making an error - posting an attack percentage of .667.Â
As the match progressed, SNU began getting some of the younger players in the match.
Grace Miracle posted five kills in the match,
Kayla Little had four,
Jacy Braziel notched three, and
Rachel Tichenor added a pair. As a team, SNU belted 54 kills out of their 75 points scored in the match, and the Crimson Storm hit .377 in the tilt.
Bailee Turang had eight kills in only two sets as an offensive player - and she led the way with nine digs while playing the third set as the SNU libero.
SNU will next take the floor on Tuesday, October 8, heading south to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on the Midwestern State University Mustangs (3-9). The match is slated for 6 p.m.
