WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Southern Nazarene University volleyball team headed down I-44 on Tuesday night to take on the Mustangs of Midwestern State University in non-conference play. The Crimson Storm started slowly, but they rebounded nicely in the final three sets to take another victory.
SNU (13-6) got another big night from seniors
Bailee Turang and
Kylie Smith, as they came from one set down to take a four-set win over MSU.
The SNU defense struggled in the first set, allowing MSU to hit .353 for the stanza, but after the Mustangs took the opening frame 25-18, SNU tightened things up on the defensive side of the net. The Crimson Storm did not allow MSU to attack the ball at more than a .235 clip for the rest of the match, holding the Mustangs to an attack percentage of zero in the final set.
Meanwhile, The Crimson Storm cranked things up on the attack. SNU belted at least 15 kills in each of the last three stanzas, including 18 kills in the third frame, as the Storm rallied. SNU took the second set 25-17, and after out-lasting MSU 25-23 in the third, they put the match away with a dominant fourth set, which SNU won 25-16.
Turang tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 12 digs, and Smith also posted a double-double with 55 assists and 14 digs.
Bailey Grimes (11) and
