Storm Split with Southeastern

SNU takes first, falls in second game

BETHANY, Okla. — David Gustafson couldn't have asked for a better outing in his final time on the mound at Feland Field in an 11-1 run rule win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. SNU lost the second game 16-6.
 
Gustafson struck out seven and gave up just one run on six hits in six innings as he moved to 5-5. Reagan Yates hit his first home run of his career as he went 1-for-3  with two RBIs and two runs scored. Cole Lee and Tanner Maskey each went 2-for-4. Lee scored a pair of runs while Maskey drove one in.
 
Yates got things going in the bottom of the second when he launched a two-run bomb with a shot to right. SNU pushed it to 3-0 in bottom of the third with a double down the left field line by Jake Vernon. He then came around to score on a Southeastern error to give the Crimson Storm a 4-0 lead.
 
Southeastern loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth, but Gustafson struck out the next two batters. The Savage Storm got a bases-loaded walk to get on the board, but SNU got out of the inning on the next batter.
 
Austin Cooper pushed the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth when he hit an opposite field shot to right for this third home run of the year. The Crimson Storm added another in the seventh on a single up the middle by Maskey that scored Shelby Reese. SNU ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the win. The first came on a double to left center by Wagner and he scored the second of the inning on a wild pitch. The final two runs came across on back-to-back four-pitch walks.
 
In the nightcap, the Crimson Storm were held to just one hit through six innings, but SNU scored six runs on six hits in the seventh.  Wagner led the way going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Cody Tolbert (1-4) took the loss after giving up five runs, two earned, on three hits.  
 
The Savage Storm scored five in the top of the first and pushed it to 7-0 with two in the second. After one in the third and three in the fifth, Southeastern led 11-0. The Savage Storm put it away with two more in the sixth and three in the third to lead 16-0.
 
SNU scored six in the bottom of the seventh to cut it to 16-6, but that was as close as they came. one in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded walk before Maskey hit one through the right side to make it 16-2. Christian Dent made it 16-3 with an infield single before a wild pitch helped SNU cut the lead to 16-4.  The final two runs came on a Lee single to left.
