Tigers Sweep Storm

East Central takes both games of a doubleheader from SNU

ADA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped both games of a Friday doubleheader at East Central 8-5 and 4-0.

In the opener, Cole Lee went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Austin Cooper went 2-for-4 with an RBI. David Gustafson (5-6) took the loss after giving up eight runs, six earned, on nine hits. He struck out five in seven innings in the start.

East Central jumped out in front early with two in the bottom of the first before SNU got on the board in the top of the fourth with one off a double play to make it 2-1. The Storm tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Cole Lee singled up the middle to score Jake Vernon.

The Tigers though erupted for four in the bottom of the fifth and added one in the sixth to lead 7-2. The Tigers scored one in the top of the seventh to lead 8-2. SNU took advantage of an ECU error in the top of the ninth to cut it to 8-3 before a Shelby Reese double to left scored Vernon to make it 8-4. Lee then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Josh Flowers as the Storm got it to 8-5, but that was as close as SNU came.

In the second game, East Central broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with three and pushed it to 4-0 in fifth. The Tigers sat on the lead from there to pick up the win.

SNU was held to just two hits in the nightcap. Ryan Mills (0-0) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits. He struck out eight in six innings.
