Storm Fall in Opener, Second Game Suspended

SNU lost to Harding in the series opener and trails 4-1 in the second game

SEARCY, Ark. — Southern Nazarene dropped the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Harding 4-3, before the second game was suspended in the top of the fifth as SNU trailed 4-1.

In the opener, Victoria Rodriguez went 4-for-4 as it took extra innings for the Bisons to down SNU. Mahina Sauer went 3-for-4  with a double while Sydni Toilolo and Katelyn Brown each went 2-for-5. Katelyn Brown (6-9) took the loss after giving up just one run on five hits in the final 5.1 innings. She struck out five. Brooke Tate gave up three runs on five hits in the start as she went the first four innings.

Southern Nazarene took the first lead of the day with one in the top of the first on a Riley Brown fielder's choice. The Bisons tied it in the bottom of the first at 1-1, but the Storm retook the lead in the top of the third on a Caitlyn Curlee single up the middle to put SNU up 2-1, but Harding answered again in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 2-2.

The Bisons took their first lead of the game in the bottom of fifth with one to lead 3-2, but SNU tied it at 3-3 in the top of the seventh on a Katelyn Brown single to right center that scored Alexis Ramos and held the Bisons scoreless in the bottom half to force extra innings.

Neither team scored in the eighth or ninth innings, and SNU was held scoreless in the 10th, before Harding got three straight, one-out singles to push the winning run across.

In the second game, Harding took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before a Toilolo single to short tied the game in the top of the fourth. The Bisons though scored three in the bottom of the fourth to lead 4-1 before the game was suspended in the top of the fifth.
