BETHANY, Okla. — In the Great American Conference opener as well as the home opener, Southern Nazarene dropped both of its games with Ouachita Baptist 6-1, and 4-0 on Sunday.
Katelyn Brown got the start in the circle for SNU in the opener and the senior took her fifth loss of the year. She gave up four runs, three earned, and struck out seven batters in 4.0 innings of work.
Kendal Stockstill led the way for the Storm at the plate, as the junior went 2-for-3 and scored SNU's only run of the game.
Caitlyn Curlee and
Kai Sanchez each went 1-for-3, while
Cheyenne Reynolds got a hit in her only appearance as a pinch hitter.
After two innings of little action, the Tigers struck first in the top of the third inning as they took a 1-0 lead. But the Storm came right back in the bottom of the third as
Katelyn Brown drove in
Kendal Stockstill on a sacrifice fly to tie things up 1-1.
Ouachita responded in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to re-take the lead 2-1. They built on that lead courtesy of a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-1. They added two more in the inning to push their lead to 6-1.
SNU couldn't get their bats to get going in the final three inning, as they weren't able to put any pressure on Ouachita Baptist.
In the second game, SNU managed just two hits from start to finish as
Makayla Shonamon got the start. She took her second loss of the year as she gave up one earned run on three hits.
Kai Sanchez and
Reilly Schlarb were the only Storm players who tallied hits as Sanchez finished 1-for-2 and Schlarb finished 1-for-3.
Ouachita Baptist struck first again, as the Tigers got a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. They added another in the top of the fourth to push their lead to 2-0.
Cassidy Davila walked in a run in the top of the sixth, causing OBU to take a 3-0 lead. The Storm walked in another run as they faced a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Much like the first game, Southern Nazarene wasn't able to get the bats going as it couldn't put any pressure on the Tigers in the final two innings.
