TUCSON, Ariz. — Southern Nazarene opened its 3-game set in the Cactus Classic with a 6-1 win over Western Oregon, but fell 4-1 to Azusa Pacific and 5-1 to Fort Lewis in the final two games of the night.

Katelyn Brown couldn't have pitched a much better game in the Cactus Classic opener as the senior struck out a season-high 11 batters and gave up just one run on three hits in the complete-game outing.

The Storm broke the game open in the bottom of the second when
Kriston Shumaker ripped a two-run double to right center to give SNU a 2-0 lead. Southern Nazarene took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Western Oregon error. The Wolves got on the board in the top of the fifth with a leadoff home run. SNU pushed it to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth on a 3-run blast to left center as
Caitlyn Curlee hit her second home run of the year.

Shumaker finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored while
Kai Sanchez went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Jacey James also went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, SNU held on to a 1-0 lead through the first four innings, but couldn't hold Azusa Pacific off long enough. The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth and added two more in the top of the sixth to put it away.

The only run of the game for the Storm came in the first at bat of the game as Curlee launched her second home run of the day and third of the year to left field. SNU had just four hits the rest of the way from there.
Sydni Toilolo had two of those hits as she went 2-for-3.

In the final game, Fort Lewis took the first lead of the night with a solo shot to left in the top of the second, but the Storm tied it in the bottom half of the inning on a Skyhawks error. Fort Lewis added two more in the top of the third and two in the fifth to lead 5-1. The Skyhawks sat on the lead from there.

The only two hits of the game came off the bat of
Mahina Sauer who went 2-for-2.
Makayla Shonamon (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings of work.
