Storm Fall in Durant

Southeastern Oklahoma State takes out SNU 66-49

DURANT, Okla. — Coming off its first Great American Conference win of the season last Saturday, Southern Nazarene couldn't make it two wins in a row on Thursday night as they fell on the road to Southeastern Oklahoma State 66-49 inside Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Crimson Storm (1-6, 1-2 GAC) were held to just 36.5 percent shooting from the floor as they committed 20 turnovers in the contest as well. The Savage Storm (3-3, 2-1 GAC) shot just 38 percent from the floor, but converted 17-of-19 (89%) of their free throws. SNU went to the line just 13 times in the game and made just 4-of-16 (25%) three-point attempts in a game where they just didn't have their best stuff offensively.

SNU had the lead just one time in the entire game, as Southeastern handled their business on their home floor. Senior Adrienne Berry was the only Crimson Storm player to reach double-figures, as she led the way with 10 points. Abby Niehues added eight points and six rebounds for SNU while Kennedy Gillette and Madeline Schroepfer each tallied six points. SOSU had four players in double-figures for scoring as Neely Noel led the way with 15 points.

Things were really tight right out of the gate as Southeastern took a 14-13 lead after the first quarter. The Savage Storm tightened up their defense in the second quarter, as they outscored SNU by six to take a 30-23 lead into halftime.

Southern Nazarene didn't go away however in the second half, as they battled in the third to score 13 points, but faced a 46-36 deficit heading into the final frame. The Savage Storm went wild in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points and putting the game out of reach for the Crimson Storm.

"There just wasn't much working for us offensively all night," said head coach Trent May after the game. "Credit to Southeastern, they came out with a gameplan and executed it. We didn't do a good job defensively tonight and just need to tighten up some of the small details to get us back on track. We're still trying to find some of the things we did well last Saturday in our win and apply those moving forward."

Southern Nazarene will not have to wait long to avenge their loss tonight as they take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in that game.
