Bison Outlast Storm

Southern Nazarene falls 76-67 to rival Oklahoma Baptist.

BETHANY, Okla. — Despite outrebounding Oklahoma Baptist 49-34 for the game, Southern Nazarene fell 76-67 on Monday night inside the Sawyer Center.
 
The Crimson Storm (7-7, 5-5 GAC) shot just 34.8 percent from the field, but made 8-of-their 18 three-point attempts. The Bison (9-6, 4-5 GAC) came into the game as the second-highest scoring team in the Great American Conference, as they proved to be too much in the second half for SNU. They scored 44 points and shot 46.4 percent in the second half as they outscored the Storm by 11. SNU turned the ball over 17 times in the game, while OBU only gave it away five times.
 
Adrienne Berry led the way for Southern Nazarene as the junior scored 14 points and added three rebounds. Sidney Carolina was one rebound shy of a double-double as the senior finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Alexus Jones posted 10 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Julia Schwake and Kennedy Gillette each scored seven points off the bench for the Crimson Storm.
 
Despite turning the ball over seven times in the first quarter, the Storm made six free throws and a couple of threes as they outscored the Bison 18-14 behind seven points from Berry. SNU held OBU to just 31 percent shooting in the period.
 
Oklahoma Baptist came out in the second period making five of their first eight shots, but Southern Nazarene matched that with a couple of threes from Schwake and Irene Perez. The Storm went 4-for-8 from downtown in the period, as they took a 36-32 lead into the break.
 
The Bison regained the lead into the third quarter, as they opened on a 12-3 run to lead 44-39. SNU went just 4-for-14 in the period, and also shot just 3-for-9 from the charity stripe as OBU outscored the Storm 22-12 to take a 54-48 lead into the fourth.
 
Oklahoma Baptist pushed their lead up to 11 with 5:18 to play, as the Storm tried to get back into the game. Southern Nazarene shot just 7-of-19 in the fourth quarter. The closest that SNU came to the lead was just eight points though, as the Bison scored 22 points in the fourth to put the Storm out of it.
