Rangers Sweep Storm

SNU falls in doubleheader with Northwestern Oklahoma State

BETHNAY, Okla. — Northwestern Oklahoma State swept a Saturday doubleheader away from Southern Nazarene as SNU fell 7-4 in the first game and 14-4 in the second.

Northwestern got things going early in the first game with three runs in the top of the first and pushed it to 4-0 in the top of the third. The Storm got on the board in the bottom of the third on a single up the middle by Tyler Stevens to cut the lead to 4-2. SNU made it 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a Joe Toilolo sacrifice fly to center to score Mike Descisciolo.

The Rangers added three more runs in the top of the eighth to lead 7-3, but SNU got one back on an Anthony Wiggins solo one-out blast to center to cut it to 7-4, but that was as close as the Storm came.

David Gustafson (0-7) started the game and took the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits. He also struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings of work. All six of SNU's hits came from different players.

In the nightcap, the Rangers erupted for four runs in the top of the first. Tyler Stevens cut into the lead with a two-run shot to left field for his fifth home run of the year. The Rangers added four more in the top of the third to lead 8-2. Cobi Ceron drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third to make it 8-3, but the Rangers scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 13-3 lead.

Feland made it 13-4 when he drove home a run in bottom of the sixth, but Northwestern added another run in the top of the seventh to make it 14-4.

Wiggins went 2-for-2 at the plate, but gave up eight runs on eight hits in three innings of work in the start as he took loss to fall to 1-6 on the year.
