Storm Drop Doubleheader to Blossoms

SNU fell 7-4 and 10-1 in a GAC doubleheader

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped a pair of Great American Conference games as it fell 7-4 and 10-1 to Arkansas-Monticello Saturday afternoon.
 
Southern Nazarene jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Hannah LeBeau and Sam Smith hit back-to-back home runs in the first. LeBeau hit a two run home run to center and Smith hit a solo shot down the left field line.
 
Arkansas-Monticello scored a run in the second, and three more in the fourth to take the lead at 4-3. The Blossoms tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it 6-3. The Storm were able to score one run in the fifth after Katelyn Brown hit an RBI double to left to score Mahina Sauer.
 
The Blossooms scored one more run in the seventh on their way to a 7-4 victory.
 
Brown (2-5) took the loss after giving up seven runs, on 11 hits, in seven innings of work. Brown also struck out a season-high 12 batters, while walking four.
 
Sauer went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Lebeau went 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBIs, and Jacey James went 2-for-3  
 
In the nightcap, Arkansas-Monticello got out to an early lead as they struck for three runs in the first and three more in the second to make it 6-0. Southern Nazarene was able to get one run back in the second after a Brown single scored Smith. That's the lone run the Storm would get on the day though. UAM added one more run in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth on their way to a 10-1 victory.
 
Sauer (2-4) took the loss after giving up six runs, on eight hits in 1.2 innings of work. Sauer also struck out three. The Crimson Storm were held to three hits, Smith went 1-for-2, Brown went 1-for-2, and Hope Martin went 1-for-2 with a double.
