MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene got its second win in conference play as they upset the No. 2 ranked team in the country, beating Southern Arkansas 5-3 in the opening game, but falling 10-1 in the second game of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

Southern Nazarene struck first as they were able to score a run in the third. Hope Martin got on base with a one-out single to center. Martin was moved into scoring position after Kai Sanchez hit a two-out single to center. Mahina Sauer delivered the first run of the game, scoring Martin on an RBI single up the middle to give the Storm an early 1-0 lead.

The Storm added a second run in the fifth as Sauer knocked in her second run of the game on a single down the left field line to score Sam Smith.

SNU tacked on two more runs in the sixth to make it a 5-0 game. Sanchez singled to left field to score two runs, then Sauer singled to left center to score Sanchez, giving her a three RBI game.

Southern Arkansas answered the Storm with three runs of its own in the sixth, but that's the only offense they would get, as SNU pulled off a 5-3 upset.

Katelyn Brown (3-4) got the win as she pitched a complete game, giving up just three runs, on seven hits while striking out one. Â

Sauer went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Sanchez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Smith went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

In the nightcap, Southern Arkansas opened up with four runs in the first and two more in the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Southern Nazarene scored its lone run in the third. Sanchez drew a one-out walk and moved over to second on a single by Sauer. Sanchez later scored on an RBI double by
Hannah LeBeau.

The Muleriders added four more runs I the fourth to make it a 10-1 game going into the fifth. The Storm got one hit in the fifth, but they failed to capitalize.

Sauer (1-4) took the loss after giving up eight runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work. Sauer went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch, LeBeau went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
