RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Storm split the Great American Conference doubleheader with Arkansas Tech, winning the opening game 1-0 and falling in the second game 6-0 Saturday afternoon.
Pitchers for both teams pitched great games, as there was a total of just four hits and one run in the opener. The game was scoreless through six innings of play. Southern Nazarene scored the lone run of the game in the seventh.
Katelyn Brown drew a one-out walk and was pinch run for by
Logan Sundbye. Sundbye advanced into scoring position as she moved to second on a wild pitch.
Amy Reynolds was then hit by a pitch and pinch run for by
Reiana Reeves. After a SNU strikeout,
Jacey James was brought to the plate with runners on first and second with two outs. James singled to right, scoring Sundbye and giving the Crimson Storm the lead and the win.
Katelyn Brown (5-7) got the win as she pitched a two-hit shutout. Brown also struck out ten batters, marking the third time this season that she has struck out ten or more batters.
James went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kendall Freer-Christopher went 1-for-3 with a double.
In the nightcap, Arkansas Tech took an early lead and never looked back. The Golden Suns struck for two runs in the first, three more in the second and one more in the third to make it 6-0. Southern Nazarene got one hit in the second game, coming off of a Freer-Christopher single in the fifth.
Brown took the loss after giving up five runs, on six hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Brooke Tate pinched 4.2 innings of relief and only surrounded one run on four hits.
