Saving a Split

Storm split with Tech on final day

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene played the best series it has all year as it picked up an 8-1 win over Arkansas Tech in the opener of the doubleheader before falling 3-2 in the final game.

Jefferson Harris tossed his first complete game of his career as the sophomore gave up just one run and scattered seven hits in nine innings of work. He also struck out three in the opener as he moved to 1-2 on the year.

Dalen Edgar went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Mike Descisciolo also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Dillon Feland also went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Arkansas Tech didn't waste any time by putting a run on the board in the top of the first, but the Storm answered back in the bottom half with two to lead 2-1. Both runs came in back-to-back batters as Edgar drew a bases-loaded walk before Anthony Wiggins was hit by a pitch. SNU added one more in the bottom of the third on a Wiggins sacrifice fly that scored Descisciolo to put the Storm up 3-1.

SNU blew the doors open in the bottom of the seventh with five runs to lead 8-1. The first came across on a Garrett Perez sacrifice squeeze before an Edgar single through the left side pushed two more across the plate. Wiggins drove home the final two runs of the inning with a double down the left field line.

In the nightcap, Arkansas Tech broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth with two in the fifth and added another in the sixth to lead 3-0. Tyler Stevens brought the Storm back into the game in the bottom of the sixth when he drilled his first home run of the year with a two-run shot to left to make it 3-2.

The Wonder Boys though retired the Storm in order in the seventh to seal the game.

David Gustafson (0-4) took the loss after giving up just three runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Stevens finished 2-for-3 in the game while Perez also went 2-for-3.
