Storm Short in Extras

Tech outlasts SNU in extra inning affair

BETHANY, Okla. — Anthony Wiggins went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored as Southern Nazarene pushed one of the Great American Conference's best, Arkansas Tech, to extra innings.

The Crimson Storm came up with runs in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to force the 10th inning, but couldn't come up with another run in the 10th in a 5-4 loss at home.

Cobi Ceron also went 3-for-5 as he scored a run and drove one home. Austin Cooper went 2-for-3 while Dillion Feland went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Cooper also got the start and gave up just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Mike Descisciolo (0-1) came in relief for the Storm in the top of the seventh and finished the game as he gave up three runs on six hits in the final four innings in the loss.

Arkansas Tech broke the scoreless tie with one in the top of the fourth and added another in the top of the fifth to make it 2-0, but Cobi Ceron and Dillon Feland cut down a second runner at the plate to keep it a two-run game. The Crimson Storm answered in the bottom of the fifth when Dalen Edgar drove home Anthony Wiggins from third with a ground out to the right side after Wiggins led off the inning with a double to right center.

ATU pushed it to 3-1 in the top of the seventh with one on a wild pitch, but the Storm answered in the bottom half with a Ceron single up the middle to score Wiggins who hit his second straight double to right center. SNU tied it in the bottom of the eighth when Wiggins drove home Tyler Stevens and pushed Joe Toilolo, who notched his first hit of the year, to third with a single to right center.

The Wonder Boys retook the lead in the top of the ninth on a one-out sacrifice fly, but SNU got that run back in the bottom half in a Dillon Feland single to center to score Ceron. The Storm had runners at second and third with no outs when Garrett Perez roped a line drive right to ATU's Kyle Gibbs at third and he beat Austin Cooper diving back into the bag for the double play. SNU then loaded the bases with two outs, but couldn't push the winning run across.

Tech got a two-out double in the top of the 10th to take a 5-4 lead and then retired the Storm in order in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
