Storm cruise past Muleriders in 87-69 victory

BETHANY, Okla. — Callee Mason's new career-high 31 points helped Southern Nazarene cruise to a 87-69 victory over Southern Arkansas Thursday night.
 
Mason came off the bench and led the Crimson Storm in scoring with a career-high 31 points on 7-for-16 shooting. Mason was also 5-for-10 from behind the arc, 12-for-13 from the free throw line, and grabbed seven rebounds. Rachael Doerneman recorded her first double-double of the season as she scored 15 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Adrienne Berry was the last SNU play to score in double figures as she added 16 points and five rebounds. Abby Boyd was held to thee points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field, however she set a career-high in assists as she recorded 11 assists. Her 11 assists is tied for fifth most in a single game in school history.
 
Southern Nazarene used the help of four 3-pointers in the first quarter to build a 21-15 lead going into the second quarter. The Storm were able to push their lead to nine points after Mason driller a 3-pointer to put the score at 29-20 with 6:26 remaining in the first half. SNU finished the half on a 15-11 run to put the score at 44-31 going into intermission.
 
Southern Nazarene shot 41.9 percent from the field and went 7-for-16 from behind the arc. The Storm also went 11-for-16 from the free throw line in the first half, while Southern Arkansas shot 37.5 percent.
 
The Muleriders started the second half on a 5-2 run to cut the Storm lead to ten points with the score at 46-36 with 7:43 remaining in the quarter. The Crimson Storm answered the SAU run with a 10-2 run, capped by four Mason free throws to put the score at 56-38 with 4:17 remaining in the quarter. SNU outscored Southern Arkansas 21-13 in the third quarter and 21-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
 
Southern Arkansas out scored the Storm 25-22 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Southern Nazarene found the win column with a 87-69 victory.
 
Southern Nazarene shot just 42.4 percent from the field and went 9-for-26 from 3-point range. The Storm also out rebounded the Muleriders 44-32 and were able to capitalize off of SAU tunrovers as they scored 20 points off of Southern Arkansas turnovers.
