BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene's seniors combined for 50 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 assists in the Crimson Storm's 81-68 victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
Abby Boyd led the Storm in scoring with 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Boyd was also 4-for-6 from behind the arc, 5-for-8 from the free throw line. Boyd also tied her career-high in rebounds with eight, she also dished out five assists.
Danielle Gaddis scored 14 points, hauled in eight rebounds, and added four assists.
Callee Mason scored 14 and added five rebounds.
Kandyce Freeman recorded her first double-double of the season as she scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Adrienne Berry was the last SNU play to score in double figures as she added 14 points and three rebounds.
Southern Nazarene, fueled by nine points from Boyd, were able to build a 17-12 lead with 1:36 remaining in the quarter. Arkansas-Monticello ended the quarter on a 8-0 run to give the Blossoms a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Crimson Storm opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, capped by a
Sidney Carolina layup to give SNU a 25-20 lead with 8:48 remaining in the first half. UAM put together an 11-5 run to retake the lead at 31-30. Southern Nazarene closed the half out on an 13-3 run to give the Crimson Storm a 43-34 lead at the end of the first half. Southern Nazarene shot 55.6 percent from the field and went 7-for-12 from behind the arc in the first half, while Arkansas-Monticello shot 43.3 percent.
SNU outscored Arkansas-Monticello 21-11 in the third quarter, helping the Storm build a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Southern Nazarene built its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter as they went up 67-47 after Gaddis hit a free throw to complete an old fashioned 3-point play. Arkansas-Monticello cut the lead down to 11-points as they out scored SNU 21-17 in the fourth quarter. However, that's as close as the Blossoms got as Southern Nazarene found the win column with a 87-69 victory.
Southern Nazarene shot just 50.9 percent from the field and went 10-for-19 from 3-point range. The Storm also out rebounded the Blossoms 38-26 and were able to hold Arkansas-Monticello to 41.7 percent shooting from the field.
