Storm Fall in Weatherford

SNU fails to earn season sweep over SWOSU as it falls 93-75

WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Southwestern Oklahoma State used the help of 16 3-pointers to hold off Southern Nazarene for a 93-75 win Monday night.
 
Sidney Carolina led the Crimson Storm in scoring with a career-high 24 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Carolina was also 3-for-4 from behind the arc and grabbed five rebounds. Danielle Gaddis recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she tied her career high in points with 17, she also hauled in 12 rebounds. Kandyce Freeman recorded her first career double-double as she scored 11 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Callee Mason was the last SNU play to score in double figures as she added 12 points and six rebounds.
 
The first half was a back and fourth affair as neither team was able to separate themselves from the other. There were six ties and three lead changes in the first half with neither team leading by more than six points. Southern Nazarene shot 33.3 percent on 15-of-45 shooting while Southwestern Oklahoma State shot 42.4 percent on 14-of-33 shooting. The bulldogs were also 7-for-16 from behind the arc in the opening half. The Storm defense forced eight turnovers and scored nine points off those miscues to put the score at 40-40 at the end of the first half.
 
The Bulldogs started the second half on an 11-2 run to give SWOSU a 51-42 lead with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter. The Storm cut the lead to 51-47 after Gaddis hit a pair of free throws, but that's as close as SNU would get as Southwestern finished the quarter on a 14-7 run to put the score at 65-54 going into the fourth quarter. SWOSU outscored SNU 25-14 in the third quarter.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State continued to apply the pressure in the fourth quarter as they began the quarter on a 17-6 run to build the Bulldogs largest lead of the game at 22-points. SWOSU lead 82-60 3:14 remaining in regulation. The Storm put together a 8-2 to run highlighted by six Carolina points to cut the lead to 84-68, but that's as close as Southern Nazarene would get as the Bulldogs finished the game on a 9-7 run to give Southwestern Oklahoma State a 93-75 win.
 
SNU out rebounded the Bulldogs 50-44, but shot just 32.1 percent from the field and went 6-for-21 from 3-point range. Southwestern Oklahoma State (12-12, 11-9 GAC) shot 47.1 percent from the field and went 16-for-35 from downtown. SWOSU also blocked 12 Storm shots and forced 12 turnovers.
