Storm Fall Short in Shawnee

SNU dropped close 83-79 contest at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Abby Boyd and Adrienne Berry both scored 23 points, but it wasn't enough as Southern Nazarene came up short in Shawnee, dropping an 83-79 contest to Oklahoma Baptist Monday night.
 
Boyd and Berry led the Crimson Storm (11-10, 8-9 GAC) in scoring, as they both notched 23 points. Boyd also added four rebounds and four assists. Sidney Carolina was the only other Storm player to reach double figures as she added 16 points and seven rebounds. Danielle Gaddis led the team in rebounding, grabbing ten rebounds, which marks the sixth time Gaddis has tallied ten or more rebounds in a game.
 
The Beginning of the first quarter was a back and fourth affair, but favoring Oklahoma Baptist as they led 11-10 with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter. The Storm then went on a 8-0 run, capped by a Boyd 3-pointer to give SNU a 18-11 lead. The Bison ended the quarter on a 12-8 run to put the score at 26-23 at the end of the first.
 
Oklahoma Baptist started the second quarter on a 11-0 run to retake the lead at 34-26 with 6:58 remaining in the first half. Southern Nazarene trimmed the lead to four points at 34-30 after Berry hit a pair of free-throws and a layup. OBU, feeling the Storm closing in on their lead, put together a 9-3 run to build a ten point lead with 3:22 remaining in the half. The Storm trimmed the lead down to eight points at the end of the half with the score at 53-45 going into intermission.
 
Southern Nazarene opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run, highlighted by a Carolina jumper to cut the Bison lead to one point with the score at 56-55 with 4:05 remaining in the quarter. Both teams traded baskets for the remaining four minutes of the quarter, with the Bison leading 65-64 going into the fourth quarter.
 
Oklahoma Baptist got off to another hot start in the fourth quarter, going on a 8-1 run to put the score at 73-65 with 6:57 remaining in regulation. Sensing the Bison pull away, the Storm went on a 12-5 run capped by a Boyd jumper to put the score at 78-77 with 1:17 remaining in regulation. The Bison push the lead to 80-77 with 48 seconds left in the game. Berry was able to cut thee lead to 80-79 after hitting a pair of free throws, but that's as close as they would get as the Bison, were able to hold on and defeat the Storm 83-79.
 
Southern Nazarene shot 43.3 percent from the field on 29-of-67 shooting while the Bison shot 40.9 percent on 27-of-66 shooting. The Bison hit nine 3-pointers and also went 20-for-26 from the free throw line. The Storm won the battle on the glass, out rebounding OBU 45-37. SNU also outscored the Bison 34-28 but it wasn't enough to come away with a road win.
