Setting Records on the Rangers

Storm scored a season-high 106 points in their win over the Rangers

BETHANY, Okla. — Callee Mason and Rachael Doerneman helped Southern Nazarene win their second straight conference game as the Storm reached triple digits in their 106-95 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon.
 
Mason led the Crimson Storm (11-9, 8-8 GAC) in scoring with a new career high 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting and 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Mason also added seven rebounds and two assists. Doerneman also scored a career high in points as she tallied 22 points and added six rebounds. Danielle Gaddis recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Adrienne Berry scored 15 points and notched four assists. Sidney Carolina was the last player to reach double figures as she added 14 points.
 
The Crimson Storm got off to a red-hot start as they opened the game with an 11-0 run capped by a Doerneman layup. The Storm then went on a 9-7 run to put the score at 20-7 with 3:46 remaining in the first quarter. Northwestern Oklahoma State traded baskets with the Storm to close the quarter, putting the score at 29-15 at the end of the first.
 
The Storm started the second quarter on a 7-0 run to put the score at 36-15 after Berry hit a 3-pointer. The Rangers pushed the score to 44-28, before the Storm went on a 9-2 run highlighted by a Mason 3-pointer. NWOSU closed the second half on a 19-10 run to put the score at 56-47 at intermission. Southern Nazarene shot 52.6 percent on 20-of-38 shooting while Northwestern Oklahoma State shot 43.6.7 percent on 17-of-39 shooting. The Storm led by as many as 23 in the first half, but 11 turnovers and 16 points off of those miscues in the first half allowed the Rangers to cut the lead down to nine.
 
The Rangers opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the Storm's lead to two points with the score at 56-54 with 7:01 remaining in the quarter. The Storm answered the Rangers run with one of their own as they went on a 9-2 run to push the lead to nine points. Southern Nazarene led 65-56 with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter. The Storm extended their lead to 14 points in the third quarter, but the Rangers cut it down to eight points at the end of the quarter with the score at 79-71 going into the fourth.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma State went on a 16-12 run to cut the SNU lead to four points with the score at 91-87 with 3:29 remaining in regulation. The Storm however, finished the game strong as they went on a 15-8 run to end the game, giving SNU a 106-95 victory.
 
Southern Nazarene shot 55.6 percent from the field on 35-of-63 shooting while the Rangers shot 47.9 percent on 35-of-73 shooting. The Storm hit a season high 28 free throws on 33 attempts. SNU also dominated the glass, out rebounding NWOSU 47-20. The Storm also scored 20 second chance points. Southern Nazarene's 106 point outing is not only a season high but is tied for the fifth highest scoring game in school history.
