Bearcats Sweep Storm

SNU drops both games of a doubleheader to Southwest Baptist

BETHANY, Okla. — Mike Descisciolo hit three home runs on the day as the senior went 4-for-8 in a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist Saturday. He scored five runs and drove in five as SNU lost the first one 11-9 and the second one 11-6.
 
In the opener, Descisciolo went 2-for-5 on the day with two, two-run home runs. Jefferson Harris went 3-for-4 with two-run home run and scored two runs as well. Easton Rodgers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Dillon Feland went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
 
Southwest Baptist jumped out in front with two in the top of the first, but SNU answered right back on a two-run shot to left field by Jefferson Harris. The Storm then took the lead on a solo home run to left by Easton Rodgers. The Bearcats added four more in the top of the third to lead 6-3, but the Storm scored three more to answer in the bottom half of the inning. The first came on a two-run blast by Descisciolo before a Garrett Perez double to left center tied it at 6-6.
 
SNU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Dillon Feland single to left that scored Tyler Stevens, but SBU got it back in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to lead 8-7. SBU three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to take the 11-7 lead.
 
The Storm got two back in the bottom half on another two-run shot to left by Descisciolo to make it 11-9, but the Bearcats closed the door from there.
 
Anthony Wiggins (0-3) took the loss after giving up two runs in an third of an inning. David Gustafson got the start and allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out a season-high eight.
 
In the nightcap, Descisciolo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Feland also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Rodgers went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
 
SBU took the first lead of the game in the top of the second with one and added two more in the top of the third to lead 3-0. The Storm answered back in the bottom of the third with two to make it 3-2. The first came on a Feland single to left center before Descisciolo hit his third home run of the day with a solo home run to right center. SBU though erupted for seven in the top of the sixth for seven runs to lead 10-2.
 
SNU scored two in the bottom of the fifth on a Rodgers double to left center to make it 10-4. SBU added another run in the top of the seventh to make it 11-4. Wiggins hit his first home run of the year with a lead off bomb to right center to cut it to 11-5 in the bottom of the seventh and SNU added one more to make it 11-6 when Tyler Stevens singled through the right side. That was as close as SNU came as the Bearcats shut the door from there.
 
Cody Tolbert (0-1) took the loss for SNU after giving up eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work.
