SNU Falls in Durant

Savage Storm take down the Crimson Storm 66-60

DURANT, Okla. — Both teams shot under 37 percent for the game, and there were a combined 33 turnovers as Southeastern Oklahoma State defeated Southern Nazarene 66-60.
 
In a back and forth game that saw six ties and three lead changes, the Savage Storm (6-2, 4-1 GAC) finished the game shooting 74 percent from the free-throw line as they went 20-for-27, while the Crimson Storm (3-3, 2-3 GAC) shot just 43 percent from the charity stripe as they went 7-for-16. Southeastern Oklahoma State shot 36 percent from the field, and 32 percent from three-point range, while SNU shot just 33 percent from the field, and 34 percent from downtown.
 
Kandyce Freeman led the way for the Crimson Storm off the bench as she scored a team-high 10 points, and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Adrienne Berry and Alexus Jones each finished with eight points, as Jones also tallied eight assists and five rebounds. Kennedy Gillette also added seven points off the bench for Southern Nazarene.
 
Things were trending in the right direction for SNU at the end of the first quarter, as the Crimson Storm led 19-12 on four assists from Jones. The Savage Storm responded in the second quarter to outscore Southern Nazarene 17-10, as the game was tied 29-29 heading into halftime, despite 11 SNU turnovers in the first half.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State came out firing in the third quarter, as they outscored the Crimson Storm 24-13 to take a double-digit lead into the fourth. SNU however, didn't go down without a fight as Freeman scored six straight points to cut the Savage Storm lead to five with just over a minute to play.

Sidney Carolina made two free-throws to make it a 63-60 game with 19 seconds left, as SNU hoped for a couple of missed free-throws from the Savage Storm. They made both, and held on for the six-point win.
