BETHANY, Okla. — After suffering its first loss of the season in its first road game, Southern Nazarene answered the bell in a big way with its next road game in an 84-52 blowout at Henderson State.
Five players scored in double figures and nearly all five starters were in double figures.
Noah Starkey notched his third double-double of the year as he had 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Micah Speight and
Jhonathan Dunn each had a team-high 15 points. Speight went 6-for-9 from the field and added a career-high seven steals and had five rebounds and five assists. His seven steals are tied for the fourth most in a single game in school history. Speight also had a streak of 29 straight made free throws come to an end with his first free throw of the night, but went 3-for-4 the rest of the way.
Coleman Edwards scored a career-high 11 points as he was 4-for-7 from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range.
Chris Stephens chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals while
Quaylon Newton nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Southern Nazarene (5-1, 3-0 GAC) shot 53.1 percent from the field and hit 60.7 percent in the first half. The Storm finished 8-for-19 from 3-point range. SNU held the Reddies to just 33.3 percent from the field and 5-of-20 from downtown. SNU dominated in the paint with 36 points compared to 16 from Henderson and scored 27 points off 23 HSU turnovers. The Storm bench also outscored Henderson's 21-7.
It didn't take long for SNU to build a double-digit lead as it led 14-4 early. The Reddies cut it to 19-14 with 10:56 left in the first half but a Stephens bucket in the paint sparked a 20-3 run by the Storm as they took their largest lead of the half at 39-17. SNU took a 43-24 lead at the half and eventually stretched it to its largest lead of the game at 73-37 with 7:37 left to play.
