SNU keeps perfect GAC record alive in a 79-67 win over Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Micah Speight posted his fourth 20-point game in seven contests to begin the season, as Southern Nazarene took down Ouachita Baptist 79-67 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The win keeps the Crimson Storm (6-1, 4-0 GAC) perfect to open Great American Conference play, as they make it a successful 2-0 weekend in Arkansas. SNU also shot above 50 percent from the field for the fifth time in seven games, as their shots were falling once again on Saturday. They shot 51 percent, as the Tigers (4-2, 2-2 GAC) made 44 percent of their shots.
 
Speight and company were active on the defensive side of the ball, as they forced 16 turnovers and totaled 22 points off those turnovers. The Storm went 8-19 from three-point range, and made 21 of their 26 free throw attempts.
 
Speight finished with a game-high 25 points, as he tied a season-high in three-pointers made with six. He also added four steals, as Jhonathan Dunn scored 14 points and added six rebounds. Quaylon Newton finished with nine points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Storm.
 
The Tigers led 17-12 with 12:45 left in the first half before Southern Nazarene went on a 13-1 run to take a 25-18 lead. After a timeout, the Storm extended their lead to double-digits and took a 40-28 lead into halftime.
 
Ouachita battled back in the opening nine minutes of the second half, as they outscored SNU 24-12 to tie the game at 52. That was the closest they came though, as the Storm responded with a 15-3 run to push their lead back to double-digits with 6:03 to play.
