BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene's defense proved to be too much for the Reddies as the Storm forced 20 turnovers en route to a 84-72 win over Henderson State Saturday afternoon.
Abby Boyd led the Crimson Storm (9-7, 6-6 GAC) in scoring with 21 points on 6-of-18 shooting and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Boyd also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Sidney Carolina scored a career high 14 points off the bench.
Rachel Doerneman was the only other SNU player to reach double figures as she scored 12 points and added three rebounds.Â

The first quarter went back and fourth as there were seven leads changes, six ties, and neither team led by more than four. At the end of the first period, Southern Nazarene led 22-18.

The Storm started the second quarter by building a 9-point lead. Putting the score at 27-18 after
Irene Perez converted an old fashion 3-point play, making the free throw after being fouled on a layup. The Reddies closed in on the Storm's lead as they put together a 10-2 run to put the score at 29-28 with 6:41 remaining in the half.

Southern Nazarene answered Henderson State's run with one of their own, as the Crimson Storm put together a 9-2 run, capped by a Perez layup to put the score at 38-30 with 3:06 remaining in the period. Henderson State ended the half on a 5-2 run to put the score at 41-35 at intermission. Southern Nazarene shot 41.7 percent on 15-of-36 shooting while Henderson State shot 35.3 percent on 12-of-34 shooting.

Henderson State opened the third quarter on a 13-6 run to retake the lead 48-47. The Reddies extended their lead to 57-53 with 2:44 remaining in the quarter. SNU went on a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 59-57 after Carolina drained a jumper. Southern Nazarene led 61-59 at the end of the third quarter.

The Reddies retook the lead in the fourth quarter at 66-65 with 8:48 remaining in regulation.
Callee Mason helped the Storm retake the lead at 70-66 after she drained a 3-pointer and sunk a layup. Southern Nazarene built their lead to eight points at 76-68 after Mason hit a contested layup in the paint. SNU later built their largest lead of the game at 84-72 with 23 seconds remaining in the game.

Southern Nazarene finished the game shooting 47.8 percent on 32-of-67 shooting, while Henderson State shot 35.4 percent on 23-of-65 shooting. The Storm forced 20 turnovers and were able to score 25 points off those miscues. SNU also out scored the Reddies 50-30 in the paint.
