Storm Tame Tigers

Raining 3's in the Sawyer Center

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene grabbed a season-high 70 rebounds, helping the Crimson Storm soar to a 90-62 win at Ouachita Thursday night.
 
Adrienne Berry led the Crimson Storm (8-7, 5-6 GAC) in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Berry also grabbed a season high eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Irene Perez recorded her first career double-double as she notched ten points and grabbed ten rebounds as well. Callee Mason scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Abby Boyd scored 15 points and added six rebounds. Rachel Doerneman was the only other SNU player to reach double figures as she scored 12 points and added three rebounds. 

Southern Nazarene started the game on a 14-3 run, highlighted by a Berry 3-pointer, which forced the Tigers to burn their first timeout of the game. Ouachita (7-11, 4-8 GAC) ended the quarter on a 8-5 run to put the score at 18-13 at the end of the first period. Berry led all scorers with nine points in the first quarter.
 
After hitting six of their first 12 shots, the Storm cooled off as the Tigers held them to hitting just one of their next 11 shots. Ouachita took advantage of the Storm's cold shooting as they opened the second quarter on an 11-7 run to bring the game within one point with the score at 25-24. As the Tigers crept closer to taking the lead, Mason put together a little five point run for SNU, capped by a big 3-point shot to extend the lead to 30-25 with 4:01 remaining in the half. The Tigers clawed their way back to put the score at 37-33, but the Storm had an answer as they the half on a 7-4 run highlighted by a Mason 3-pointer to bring the score to 44-37 at intermission.
 
Mason and Berry helped the Storm build their first half lead as they each scored 12 first half points, combing for 24 of SNU's 44 first half points. The Storm shot 44.4 percent on 16-of-36 shooting, while holding the Tigers to 30.0 percent shooting, on 12-of-40 shooting. SNU turned the ball over nine time in the first half, which led to five Tiger points. OUA also hit five threes in the first half.
 
Southern Nazarene opened the second half on a quick 6-0 run as Boyd drained two 3-points to put the score at 50-37 with 7:55 remaining in the quarter. After seeing Boyd hit two three's, Berry sunk her second and third 3-pointers of the game to put the score at 60-39 with 5:21 remaining.  The Storm outscored the Tigers 28-9 in the third quarter, which helped them build a commanding 26-point lead with the score at 72-46.
 
The Tigers went on a small run, but the Storm ended fourth quarter by building their largest lead of the game at 28-points, enabling Southern Nazarene to cruise to a 90-62 victory.
 
The Storm used the help of the 3-point shot to edge out the Tigers as they hit nine threes on 9-of-29 shooting, which marks the fifth time this season that Southern Nazarene has hit nine or more three's in a game. SNU also grabbed a season best 70 rebounds, on their way to out rebounding the Tigers 70-36. The Storm also outscored OUA 38-14 in the paint.
