Storm Fall Short in Durant

Southern Nazarene dropped its second straight conference game

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene struggled offensively as they shot 33.3 percent from the field and were outscored in three quarters en route to a 65-58 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State Monday night.

The Crimson Storm (7-7, 4-6 GAC) got off to a mixed start, as they started the game trailing Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-2 before going on a 7-2 run to go up 9-8 with 1:58 remaining in the first quarter. The Savage Storm scored the final five points of the opening period to give them a 14-9 lead.

The Storm struggled in the beginning of the second quarter as they turned the ball over three times and missed seven of their first eight shots in the quarter. Southeastern Oklahoma State was able to go on a 7-2 run to give the Savage Storm a 21-12 lead with 5:15 remaining in the first half. SNU was able to trade baskets with Southeastern Oklahoma State for the remaining five minutes of the half, as the Storm ended the first half on a 8-7 run to put the score at 28-20 at intermission.

Southern Nazarene fought its way back during the third quarter as they outscored the Savage Storm 24-20 in the quarter. The Crimson Storm opened the quarter on a 8-2 run, making it a 30-30 game with 6:43 remaining in the quarter. The next seven minutes were largely a back-and-forth affair, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. SNU got within one point, but at the end of the period, the Savage Storm led 48-44.

The Storm got within four points after Danielle Gaddis hit a free throw, but that's as close as they would get as the Savage Storm fended off the Storm on their way to a 65-58 victory.

Turnovers plagued Southern Nazarene throughout the game, as it ended the game with 16 giveaways, however Southeastern Oklahoma State wasn't able to capitalize as they only managed to score six points off those miscues. Kandyce Freeman grabbed a season high ten rebounds and added nine points. Danielle Gaddis led the Storm in scoring with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Adrienne Berry chipped in ten points and two rebounds. Irene Perez fell just short of a double double as she scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.
