Tigers Snap Storm's Streak

Southern Nazarene couldn't slow down the Tigers

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene had its four game winning streak snapped as East Central edged out the Storm 62-60 Thursday night.
 
Adrienne Berry led the Crimson Storm in scoring with 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting and 4-of-10 shooting from the 3-point line. Berry also grabbed one rebound and blocked one shot. Abby Boyd was the only other SNU player to reach double figures as she scored 15 points and added four assists and four rebounds. 
 
SNU shot 35.0 percent on 7-of-20 shooting while East Central shot 38.5 percent on 5-of-13 shooting in the opening quarter. In the opening quarter, both teams struggled to control the ball as the Storm turned the ball over four times and the Tigers turned the ball over five times. However, despite the poor ball control, Southern Nazarene was able to build a 19-14 lead by the end of the first quarter.
 
After spending the opening six and a half minutes trading baskets with East Central, the Storm led 27-25 with 3:35 remaining in the first half. The Crimson Storm were able to build their largest lead of the game in the first half after Berry drilled a 3-pointer to put the lead at 34-25 with 2:08 remaining in the half. The Tigers ended the half on a 8-3 run to put the score at 37-33 going into intermission. The Storm shot 40.6 percent on 13-of-32 shooting in the first half, while ECU shot 41.9 percent on 13-of-31 shooting. Berry led all scorers at the half, as she notched 15 first half points on 4-of-8 shooting and 3-of-7 from behind the arc.
 
The Tigers got off to a hot start in the third quarter as they opened with a 7-3 run to take the lead at 42-38 with 7:08 remaining in the quarter. ECU extended the lead to 47-42 with 5:44 remaining in the quarter as the SNU struggled to get its offense running in the second half. The Storm scored four unanswered points to put the score at 47-46, but failed to take the lead. The Tigers pushed the lead to 50-48 at the end of the third quarter.
 
Southern Nazarene retook the lead with the first possession of the fourth quarter as Abby Boyd drained a 3-pointer to give SNU a 51-50 lead. The Storm's lead didn't last long as the Tigers put together an 8-1 run to retake the lead at 58-52 with 5:08 remaining in regulation. Boyd helped the Storm tie the game back up at 58-58 after she hit and second and third 3-pointers of the game. After the game was knotted up at 60-60, ECU retook the lead at 62-60 with 1:05 remaining in regulation. After a missed opportunity on the offensive end, the Crimson Storm got a big stop on the defensive end and forced a turnover to give them the final possession of regulation with 10.6 seconds remaining. The Storm in bounded the ball to Boyd who got an open look at 3-point shot, but it missed off the back of the rim, with East Central grabbing the defensive rebound and the win.
 
The Crimson Storm struggled shooting the ball as they shot 31.3 percent on 20-of-64. East Central shot 39.1 percent on 25-of-64 shooting. The Storm also lost the battle in the paint as the Tigers out rebounded the Storm 45-38 and out scored SNU 30-22 in the paint. Southern Nazarene also had a difficult time at the line as they were 13-for-20 from the free throw line.
