Storm Run by Bison

SNU cruised to its fourth straight win

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene used the help of six players scoring in double figures to surge to a 96-65 win over in-state rival Oklahoma Baptist Monday night.
 
Southern Nazarene got off to a hot start as they made four of their first seven shots, allowing them to build an early 10-2 lead with 6:48 remaining in the opening quarter. Oklahoma Baptist answered the Storm's run by going on a 7-2 run of their own to put the score at 12-9 with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter. SNU ended the quarter on a 14-5 run highlighted by 3-pointers from Irene Perez and Callee Mason to put the score at 26-14 at the end of the quarter.
 
The Crimson Storm started the second quarter like they started the first, as they were able to go on a 7-2 run, highlighted by an old-fashioned 3-point play from Danielle Gaddis to put the score at 33-16 with 7:19 remaining in the quarter. Southern Nazarene was able to build a 20 point lead, with the score at 49-29 going into intermission. The Storm shot 50.0 percent on 19-of-38 shooting in the first half, while holding OBU to 35.3 percent on 12-of-34 shooting. SNU also grabbed 26 rebounds and forced eight turnovers in the opening half.
 
Southern Nazarene's defense played an amazing third quarter as they only allowed the Bison to score 14 points on 6-for-19 shooting. Kandyce Freeman fueled the Storm's offense as she scored eight straight points in the third quarter to help SNU build its largest lead of the game at 36 points. The Storm finished the third quarter with a 76-43 lead.
 
The Bison were able to cut into the Storm's lead in the fourth quarter, but they never got closer than 26 points as the Crimson Storm cruised to a 96-65 victory, their fourth straight conference win. SNU finished the game shooting 50.7 percent on 36-of-71 shooting, while Oklahoma Baptist shot 36.6 percent on 26-of-71 shooting. SNU dominated the paint as they out rebounded OBU 47-35 and out scored the Bison 52-20 in the paint. Southern Nazarene also forced 15 turnovers and scored 24 points off those miscues.
 
The Storm had a very balanced offensive attack as six players reached double figures. Berry led Southern Nazarene in scoring with 16 points, she also added seven rebounds, and one steal. Gaddis recorded her second straight double-double as she scored 13 points and added ten rebounds. Boyd, Mason, and Freeman all scored 12 points each, and Madeline Schroepfer was the last SNU player to reach double figures as she scored ten points. The Storm also had five players record five or more rebounds, Gaddis led with ten, followed by Berry with seven, Perez with six, and Boyd and Schroepfer with five. Schroepfer's five rebounds were a career high, Perez also set a new career high as she dished out six assists.
