Tigers Paw Through Storm

Second half catches up with SNU in loss to East Central

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene went toe-to-toe with East Central for a half Saturday, but the ECU scored 17 unanswered in the second half to down the Crimson Storm 23-6.
 
The Storm (0-3, 0-3 GAC) had 104 yards of total offense in the first half, but the Tigers (1-2, 1-2 GAC) held the Storm to just 33 yards of offense in the second half.
 
SNU finished with 137 total yards with 135 of that coming on the ground. East Central had 429 total yards, 228 of that coming in the second half, with 252 rushing and 177 passing yards.
 
Terence olds led the way with 87 yards on 11 carries while Alec Laffoon had 31 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 carries. Laffoon was also 1-for-10 in passing attempts.
 
East Central put the first points on the board with 13:06 left in the first on a 35-yard field goal by Jarod Haynes. The Storm though answered on the ensuring drive as Alec Laffoon capped a 6-play, 74-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run. The big play in the drive came on a 51-yard run by Olds to put the Storm in the red zone.
 
The Tigers tied it late in the second with another Haynes field goal from 34 yards out to make it 6-6 heading into the half. ECU took a 9-6 lead with 8:48 left in the third before scoring its first touchdown of the game  with 2:03 left in the third to take a 16-6 lead. The Tigers added another touchdown with 9:23 left in the fourth to put it out of reach.
 
Josh Jordan, Ruben Demosthene and Stephen Price all had seven tackles as Price had 1.5 tackles for a loss. Breyon Jackson recorded his first sack of the year and Derrick Carmouche notched his first interception of the year.
