SNU Takes Two Losses at GAC-MIAA Crossover

Storm drop matches to Emporia State and Missouri Western State

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped both matches Friday at the GAC-MIAA Crossover as it lost 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-18) to Emporia State before falling to Missouri Western State, 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 31-29)
 
Courtney Bowie had 10 kills and hit .333 for Southern Nazarene in the loss to Emporia. McKayla Benner and Lexie Matthews each had ninth kills while Benner had three blocks while Matthews had two. Elyse Berlin had 36 assists and 15 digs while Abbey Bell had 13 digs and Hannah Davis had 12.
 
SNU was held to just a .081 (43-32-135) clip and got doubled up on blocks as it had five compared to 10 by Emporia State. The Hornets got 19 kills from Josie Williams who also had 10 digs and hit .324.
 
Bowie also led the way against Missouri Western as the senior had 14 kills and hit .400. Matthews added eight ills while Benner had seven. Matthews also had four blocks and five digs while Benner had three blocks. Berlin dished out 32 assists and added eight digs an a block. Bell had 13 digs while Bailee Turang and Davis each had eight.
 
The Storm hit .236 (41-16-106) and had 8.5 blocks and 50 digs compared to seven blocks and 48 digs from the Griffins. The two teams had 27 ties and 12 lead changes in the match with all the lead changes and 26 ties coming in the final two sets.
 
The Storm did have a chance to take a set off of MWSU in the final set as they led 29-28, but the Griffins scored three straight to put the match away.
