Storm Unable To Tame Tigers

SNU tallied just eight hits as it dropped a doubleheader to Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene continued its struggles in Great American Conference play, extending its losing streak in conference play to 11 games as it dropped a doubleheader 10-0 and 11-2 to Ouachita.

The Crimson Storm (8-36, 5-24 GAC) managed just eight hits through two games, while the Tigers pounded out 27 hits during the doubleheader. In game one, the Tigers tallied 12 hits and two home runs while four Ouachita players had multi-hit games.

Mason Pinion (0-10) got the start for SNU and pitched well, surrendering six runs, just four earned, over six innings. He didn't surrender a single walk and struck out two. On the offensive end, the Storm were led by Austin Cooper, who recorded three of SNU's four hits. Josh Matelsky had the only other hit for the Storm.

The hot hitting for Ouachita continued into the finale, as the Tigers scored all 11 runs in the first three innings. The Tigers scored three in the first before exploding for seven in the second, then added one more in the third.

Southern Nazarene didn't record its first base hit until the fifth inning, when Matelsky broke through with a single, extending his hitting streak to six games. Matelsky put the Crimson Storm on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run, his second of the year.

Jefferson Harris (0-2) started game two for the Storm and surrendered 10 runs on 10 hits over 1.2 innings. Cameron Ray pitched well in relief, as he gave up just one run on five hits over 4.1 innings with one strikeout.
