Suns Sweep Storm

Southern Nazarene drops Saturday doubleheader to Arkansas Tech

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader falling 5-0 and 7-2 to No. 5 Arkansas Tech.

Tech broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth and then added three more in the top of the sixth to lead 4-0. That was all Jalissa Gum needed as she gave up just two hits and struck out eight.

Kayla Wyatt (4-5) took the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits and struck out six in seven innings of work. Jill Clemence had both of SNU's hits as she went 2-for-3.

Katelyn Brown went 2-for-3 in the nightcap with an RBI while Cheyenne Reynolds went 2-for-4.

The Golden Suns struck first in the nightcap with an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Storm got one back on a bases-loaded ground out by Jessica Thompson to tie it at 1-1. The Crimson Storm took the lead in the bottom of the third when Katelyn Brown roped a two-out single to left center to score Sam Smith from second.

ATU answered back in the top of the fifth with two to take a 3-2 lead and erupted in the seventh with four more to lead 7-2. SNU was held scoreless in the final three innings as Kelsie Barker picked up the win and Morgan Vaughan notched the save for the Golden Suns.

Brown (3-6) took the loss after giving up seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits. She struck out six in 6.1 innings of work.

SNU falls to 7-13 overall and 2-10 in the GAC.
