Eagles Fly Through Storm

SNU surrendered five home runs in a 15-6 loss

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene gave up a season-high 19 hits as it dropped a non-conference game 15-6 at the hands of Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Storm (4-21, 4-11 GAC) scored three runs in the top of the first, but struggled for the rest of the contest. Dillon Feland scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch, and Garrett Perez scored on an error by the pitcher on the same play to give the Storm a 2-0 lead. Anthony Wiggins scored when Shelby Reese hit into a fielder's choice, giving SNU a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
 
OC chipped away with a run in the bottom frame, then tied it up with two in the bottom of the second. The Eagles then dealt a big blow in the fifth as they scored five runs in the inning, including two home runs.
 
SNU tried to make a game of it as it brought home two runs in the top of the sixth. Brady VanZant scored on a groundout by Feland then Gaige Webster scored when Wiggins reached on an error.
 
OC didn't let the Storm hang around long as it scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning, with all seven runs coming from home runs.
 
VanZant drove in Reese in the top of the seventh to make it 15-6, but that was as close as SNU would get.
 
Wiggins (0-5) got the start on the mound for Southern Nazarene and gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits over 4.1 innings of work. VanZant and Feland led the way on offense as each managed two hits for the Crimson Storm.
 
SNU struggled keeping the ball in the yard, surrendering a season-high five home runs as it played with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. The Eagles had seven different players record multiple hits on the night.
